Why
is 2016 so special?
Why is 2016 so special?
Of course because of the upcoming presidential election; no matter what
will happen, the history will be made.
But personally for me this year is special because I finally finalized J the projects I
want to pursue, i.e. I finished the transition from various ideas to the vision
of the final Òproduct.Ó
When I came in the US I had no money, no network, no English, I was like
a newborn. It took significant amount of time just to learn the language good enough
to be able to teach. Then I had to learn my new educational environment Ð how
people teach, what to expect from students, what do students expect from
teachers. Then I had to learn what is happening in the science of teaching.
Since ninety percent of my talking time has been limited to teaching physics,
my vocabulary has been limited to the language revolving about teaching
physics. Only by the end of 2015 my ideas of what do I want to do next became
more or less crystallized (and my ability to express the ideas achieved
acceptable level). 2016 is the year when I finally finished my thinking and
started my doing.
There are five paths for a person to succeed.
1. One might be a genius. Things one does are so clearly unique and
great that everyone sees it and accept it.
2. One might have a strong charisma. From my view it is an equivalent of
being a genius in the field of convincing people to follow the one.
3. Spending years on a hard work gradually becoming more and more
recognizable, eventually becoming a name (i.e. a brand of sort).
4. Being accepted in a team which already has a name and grow with the
team.
5. One might have got lucky, e.g. win a lottery, or get married on an
exceptional person, or be born reach, or bump into a very influential person and
make a strong impression, etc.
I am not a genius.
I have no charisma.
I have spent years in Russia building my first career. I have spent
years in the US building me second career. And I am willing to spend the rest
of my life on building my third career, but I am afraid when I finish building
it I will not have any time left to enjoy the results, simply because I will be
dead.
Hence, I have been trying to become a member of a team. I have been
speaking with different faculty and officials at different departments but so
far I could not find anyone whose team would have interests similar to mine.
So, I needed to get lucky.
I needed to widen up the search for partners.
What the heck, what do I have to lose?
And I founded TeachOlogy Consulting, LLC.
I started publishing online posts using various platforms.
I started writing letters to people who might be receptive to unorthodox
ideas.
My latest experiment is sending an application to

For me it is a good opportunity to practice in making short and clear
pitch of what I am offering.
For Forbes and its co-organizers it is a test
on being able to see beyond the boundaries, even if those boundaries had been
set by the Forbes.
I do not hide the fact that I am not 30 anymore - although, since I was
reborn in 2002 technically I could
be considered as a fourteen years old J.
I will not compete for the prize; just want to make a presentation.
WeÕll see what happens Ð life is unpredictable! (exactly like upcoming
presidential election)
Below is an excerpt from my application.
General description:
Ultimately, what I try to do is helping
teachers and school and district administrators to improve the efficiency of
teaching. But my immediate goal is to attract attention to a fact that current
research on education does not really help to improve education. I belong to a
small group of scholars who state that currently
there is no such thing as science of education - there are people conducting
scientific activities, but the time has come to redirect many of those
activities. To study the world of physics people has been spending billions of
dollars to build specialized scientific facilities like the ISS, or the Hadron
collider. It is time to develop research facilities to study the world of
education.
My
market; how did I asses it:
1. auditing the system for making decisions on issuing a
grant to an educational institution - I am an expert and can help to
significantly increase the effectiveness of decision making process
2. producing examples of objective, reliable, uniform,
comparable data on learning outcomes. My assessment comes first from assessing
skills and knowledge of my own students.
Competitors:

Difference
from competitors:
No political or institutional affiliation, absolutely
objective analysis, experience in immersing in many types of educational
practices (including but not limited: physicists by trade, teacher by practice,
researcher by choice, administrator by invitation)
Goal
for the Summit:
Presentation at the event. I might go in the category
"people who will never get an award but have strangely unusual project
which, if succeeded, might lead to a significant disturbance in
education".
My
Motivation:
At least 30 % of high school graduates have a
"fake" diploma because their actual knowledge is below 12th grade
(based on my personal teaching experience). A science of education does not
exist yet but badly needed in order to reform the way education is currently
being reformed. The result
will affect the poorest schools much more than schools of the other kind
Long
term goals:

Path
to achieving the goal:
1. Recognition.
2. Partnering with people having (a) vision, (b) critical
view on current education, (c) influence
Why should you be chosen as a finalist? How
will the investment help your organization expand its impact or accomplish its
goal?
1. Why? - Read all I said above.
2. I am NOT competing for any monetary prize (in particular,
because it still would be too small), I just want to present people a chance to
see an approach to stirring education which is "perpendicular" to
many commonly accepted views.
Why is your team the best team to help your
business succeed?
Because I select everyone based on their beliefs about
education.

First thing you notice is how opposite the
judgment is.
While reading you can see that suddenly
judges realized that I an older than thirty; they kept judging, but stopped
wiring notes.

The business plan of TEACHOLOGY CONSULTING is very unclear.
The pitch provided by Mr. Voroshilov is unclear and of questionable quality.
His current website is of questionable quality. It also seems that he is well
over the age of 30, based on his LinkedIn profile, which shows that he
received his undergraduate degree in 1985. He seems to be aimed towards the
betterment of education, but does not offer a sufficiently clear plan as to how
he will do so. |
